A keepsake knit pattern book inspired by the timeless children’s poem, Wynken, Blynken and Nod by Eugene Field and first published in 1889 in the Chicago Daily News.
The knit sweaters and caps on the three children who sail and fish among the stars in a wooden shoe, are all traditional fisherman sweaters from the coasts of the Northern Atlantic: a Breton pullover and beanie, a Gansey pullover and cap, and an Aran cardigan and hat.
Wynken, Blynken and Nod represent the three stages of falling asleep, with Wynken and Blynken are eyes closing and Nod is nodding off. At the end of the poem, the children are covered in Appalachian Baby Design’s most iconic knit blanket, Sweet Dreams.
There are detailed knit patterns and schematics for the seven designs, accompanied by charming watercolors by artist Jeanne Brenneman.
Also included in the book is an insert of the poem with a watercolor of the children in their wooden shoe that can be detached and framed for gifting.
